How kids learn to type here
Fingers go home
Children start with the home row (A S D F, J K L ;) and learn which finger presses which key. The colours on the keyboard match the colours on the hands (see the finger chart).
Two new keys at a time
Each lesson adds just two keys and lasts 2–3 minutes. That's short enough for young children to stay focused and feel proud when they finish.
Practise with games
Balloon Pop builds fast letter finding. Space Words builds word typing and reading practice with simple sight words.
Questions from parents
What age can kids start learning to type?
Most children can start around age 5 or 6, once they know their letters. Children aged 4 can play Balloon Pop on 🐢 slow speed where the glowing key shows which key to press.
Is it really free?
Yes. All lessons and games are free, with no account or sign-up. We keep the site running with a few ads on information pages. Ads never appear inside lessons or games.
Does it work on a tablet or phone?
Yes. Children can tap the on-screen keyboard. For real touch typing, a physical keyboard (laptop, desktop, or a keyboard connected to a tablet) is best.

Which keyboard layout does it use?
The standard QWERTY layout used in the USA, UK, India, Australia, Canada and many other countries.
